About the role
Renewable Farms is seeking a relationship-builder who can grow support for our nonprofit mission and connect more people with our farms. The coordinator will pursue grants and in-kind donations, build business and community partnerships, expand volunteer and internship opportunities, and share the impact of our work.
The position serves Riverbed Farm in Anaheim and Gold Coast Farm in Aliso Viejo, with time split between on-site and remote work. The coordinator reports to the Executive Director.
Key responsibilities
- Research prospective donors, foundations, and businesses; track funding opportunities, grant deadlines, renewals, submissions, and reports.
- Build and steward relationships with individual donors, businesses, foundations, schools, and community organizations; make direct fundraising asks and pursue sponsorships.
- Develop business partnerships that bring corporate volunteer groups to the farms and secure sponsorships or project funding for farm improvements and program needs.
- Plan and coordinate community fundraising events, including promotion, partner outreach, event-day logistics, and donor follow-up.
- Recruit, schedule, and orient volunteer groups; coordinate farm-safety briefings with farm staff, track participation, and help create a positive volunteer experience.
- Develop an internship program with community and education partners; recruit and orient interns, coordinate staff mentorship and work plans, and track participation and learning outcomes.
- Pursue in-kind contributions such as tools, building materials, farm supplies, clothing, and other resources that support programs and site improvements; balance these efforts with grant writing and fundraising.
- Stay active in local communities by attending meetings, partner events, and gatherings; explain Renewable Farms’ work, listen for community needs, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Plan and actively share Renewable Farms’ story through social media, email, newsletters, brochures, photos, videos, and outreach letters. Use a simple communications calendar, track engagement, and follow appropriate consent and privacy practices.
- Maintain a donation tracker for grants and in-kind gifts, recording the donor, date, amount or items, estimated value where practical, intended use, acknowledgment, and follow-up. Keep grant, partner, and volunteer records and report results to leadership.
Qualifications
Relevant experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, community engagement, communications, partnership development, or volunteer coordination. A bachelor’s degree is not required.
Strong writing, speaking, relationship-building, and organizational skills; comfort learning donor databases and digital content tools; and comfort making direct asks and representing an organization independently. Able to create or coordinate engaging digital content, manage several projects and deadlines, and travel between both farm locations.
Familiarity with nonprofit work and a commitment to inclusive community service are valued.
What success looks like
A growing, balanced pipeline of grants, in-kind donations, business partnerships, sponsored projects, successful community fundraising events, volunteers, and interns that advances Renewable Farms’ programs and helps offset the cost of the position.
Specific annual targets will be set with the Executive Director and reviewed alongside relationship quality, completed projects, internship participation, volunteer engagement, and community reach.
